FROM THE PRESIDENT
The final event for this CMC season is rapidly approaching. For the first time since the completion of the restoration of the mighty Austin Pipe Organ, we are being allowed a third concert for the year at Memorial Auditorium, and what a way to end what has been a spectacular array of programs!
On Monday, May 7 at 7PM, the CSO Youth Orchestras’ Symphony Orchestra will perform with guest organist Dr. Robert Delcamp, Professor of Music, University Organist, and Director, University Choir at The University of the South at Sewanee. This inclusion of the Youth Orchestra extends our involvement with young musicians, a wonderful way to fulfill one of our missions, promoting the love of music in our community, with special emphasis on our youth. And of course the concert is free and open to the public.
Speaking of youth: the annual Spring Tea was held this past Sunday at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In addition to installation of officers for the coming year, the winners of last month’s scholarship competition performed. It was absolutely thrilling to hear these remarkable young musicians display their talents. A total of $12,000.00 was shared by eight recipients. We’ve come a long way from 1946 when the CMC awarded its first scholarship!
Plans are already underway for the coming year’s programs, beginning toward the end of June with the annual “patriotic” concert. More on that later.......
Best Regards,
Jeannette Martin
